I’ve just got back from my summer holiday to Javea. A week in the Spanish sun provided some much-needed rest and a chance to wear some of my more summery outfits.
Here are my recommendations for what to pack if you’re headed out to Javea this summer.
What I wore
We stayed in a gorgeous villa by the sea, so mostly I wore swimming costumes, bikinis and summer dresses that I could easily drape over the top of my swimwear when walking to the beach or stopping off for some food.
Bikini – Missguided from ASOS – £22; Sandals, Steve Madden sandals – TK Maxx or ASOS – £30; Clutch – Eliza Eliza – £32; Dress, Corte Ingles, years ago
You can’t beat a white bikini for showing off a tan, I paired mine with simple pinks and blues. The clutch, handmade in Wales by ethical Eliza Eliza was perfect for keeping my passport and travel documents all in one place. Do It Like a Woman is a collection of empowering stories from women around the world, great for flicking in and out of.
Crochet crop top, handmade in Cuba – here’s a good dupe from H&M – £17.99; Skort – Loudmouth – £66; Iron-on badge – Shenanigans – £4.99; Swimming costume – Debenhams – £27.20; Sunglasses – Ray-Ban – £107
You can be as bright as you like on holiday, so I always take colourful prints away with me. A pair of quality sunglasses is also crucial to protect from the UV rays.
Visor – Loudmouth – £14; Sliders – Schuh Imperfects – £12.99
When you’re in the beaming hot sun, a cap or visor is essential. Loudmouth has some great, bright designs on their site.
Some sliders for lounging by the pool are perfect for slipping on and off with ease. These Fila ones were only £12.99 from Schuh Imperfects, if you haven’t had a look yet – do! They sell off stock with the tiniest imperfections at a hugely reduced price. These had a negligible mark on.
At the beach
Dress – ASOS – £16
Playsuit, Henry Holland from years ago
Towel – Bushbells – £30
This Kikoy towel is perfectly soft, folds away neatly in a bag and even doubles up as a sarong. It even has a small Velcro pocket on the side, to keep valuables in.
Out and About
Dress – ASOS – £18; Choker, Cherry Soda (use code CRISTINA20 for 20% off)
What to read
And, what would a holiday be without a suitcase full of books? My top two picks for this summer are:
How To Stop Time, Matt Haig – £4.99
A bittersweet tale about a man who ages slower than everybody else – think Benjamin Button in reverse. Funny, moving and romantic – you won’t be able to put this one down.
The Power, Naomi Alderman – £3.99
Imagine a world where the women took over – here it is. This book is thrilling, empowering and a little messed up. A good dystopic read for your holiday.
